Military General Service 1793-1814, 4 clasps, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Nivelle, Orthes (T. F. Smith, Lieut. 24th Foot) good very fine £1200-1500

Thomas Francis Smith was born circa 1792 and served as Ensign and Lieutenant in the Royal Westminster and Middlesex Militia from 1808 to 1812. He was gazetted Ensign in the 24th Foot on 4 June 1812, became Lieutenant in June 1818, and Adjutant in the month following. He served in the Peninsula with the 24th Foot and was present at the battles of Vittoria, Pyrenees, Nivelle, and Orthes. After service in the Peninsula he accompanied the regiment to the East Indies where he served until its return to England in October 1823 when he was placed on half pay on reduction of the regiment. He subsequently lived in Canterbury, Kent, where he died on 28 February 1851, aged 58 years.
