Henry Montague Shallett O’Brien was appointed Lieutenant in the Border Regiment on 10 May 1882, became Captain on 30 December 1891, and served with the Waziristan Field Force under Sir William Lockhart in 1894-95 (Medal with clasp). He was appointed Major on 27 August 1902 but did not take part in the Boer War, retiring some time before the Great War.
