William Munro was born in Kirkintilloch, Dumbartonshire and enlisted at Stirling. He initially served as Private S-19825 in the Gordon Highlanders before transferring to the 7th (Fife) Battalion Royal Highlanders as Private S-41443. Serving with them he died of wounds, France/Flanders, on 26 May 1918, aged 19 years. He was buried in the Roclincourt Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais.
