Samuel Calladine was born in Nottingham, on 17 February 1877. Working in the Timber Trade in civilian life, he was recruited into the South African Constabulary on 24 October 1901, aged 24 years. Prior to this he had served for 4 years with the Notts Cyclists. Trooper Calladine was discharged in June 1902. With copied service papers.
