Chirume, who was born in the Charter District of Rhodesia, joined the British South Africa Police in July 1948. In his subsequent career of some 30 years with the Force, he served variously at Shamva, Bindura, Sinoia and Marandellas, and was awarded the Second Bar to his L.S. & G.C. in 1979 (
Rhodesia Government Notice 220 of that year refers).
