Six: Warrant Electrician A. T. Walker, Royal Navy

1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star, clasp, France and Germany; Africa Star, clasp, North Africa 1942-43; Italy Star; War Medal 1939-45; Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.V.R., 3rd issue (M. 36931 A. T. Walker, C.E.A. 1, H.M.S. Medway), mounted as worn, very fine and better (6) £100-120

Arthur Thomas Walker was mentioned in despatches for his services as a Temporary Warrant Electrician aboard H.M.S. Orion during operation “Shingle”, the Allied landings at Anzio in January 1944 (London Gazette 1 August 1944 refers). The cruiser Orion had earlier participated in the Sicily and Salerno landings, and was subsequently present in operations off Normandy and the South of France.

Walker’s service in the depot ship
Medway suggests he may have been a submariner in the period leading up to the 1939-45 War.
