Private William Hewitt, 25th Infantry Battalion, embarked at Brisbane on 29 June 1915 aboard H.M.A.T. Aeneas. Serving with the 2nd Pioneer Battalion, he was killed on 3 May 1917, aged 25 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Somme, France. He was the son of William and Annie Dorothy Hewitt of Barroll House, Hereford, England.
