Able Seaman Herbert Henry Hayward, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, was killed in action, aged 18 years, when serving aboard the cruiser H.M.S. Southampton at the Battle of Jutland, 31 May 1916. Hayward was one of 36 men killed aboard the ship. He was the son of Mr F. and Mrs M. Hayward of 7 Nevis Road, Balham, London.
