Oswald Norman was born in Gateshead, Durham on 21 December 1881. Employed as a Grocer’s Assistant, he enlisted into the Royal marines at London on 31 December 1900. He was discharged to the Royal Fleet Reserve in January 1913. Called up for service in the Great War, he served on Empress of Britain, August 1914-May 1915 and Cyclops, November 1915-February 1919. Following the end of the war he was demobilised on 22 March 1919. With copied service papers and gazette extract.
