Charles G. Having then retreated south from Ligny, Hawkes and his comrades saw further action in the fighting around La Fete in September, and Le Gheer in October and November, the latter month witnessing casualties of 170 men - and the award of the V.C. to their comrade, Drummer S. J. Bent.
