A large Collection of Papers relating to Lieutenant-Colonel Cecil Francis Aleck Walker, M.C., Grenadier Guards

Includes: Commission documents (2) - December 1907 & August 1908; M.I.D. Certificates (2); Army Book; a number of papers re. military examinations taken and gained; numerous letters, many with envelopes; casualty reports; typescript operational orders; typescript wartime diary entries from other officers of the Grenadier Guards; lecture notes; a quantity of newspaper sheets and cuttings from papers dating from the Great War; maps; booklets; London Gazette 17 October 1941 relating to operations, 3 September 1939-31 January 1940; together with a number of military photographs - a large and fascinating archive of papers from a senior officer of the Grenadier Guards, generally good condition (lot) £200-300

Cecil Francis Aleck Walker was born on 5 January 1885. He was appointed a Temporary 2nd Lieutenant in the Unattached List of the Auxiliary Forces on 24 December 1907 and a 2nd Lieutenant in the Grenadier Guards on 15 August 1908. Promoted to Lieutenant on 5 January 1910; during the period 24 August 1912-27 March 1914 he served as A.D.C. to Admiral Sir D. H. Bosanquet, G.C.V.O., K.C.B., Governor of South Australia. He was advanced to Captain on 16 January 1915; Acting Major, 16 December 1917-15 October 1918 and Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel, 16 October 1918-24 February 1919. During the war he served in France/Flanders, 12 August-22 October 1914; 26 July-22 October 1915, and 7 October 1916-11 November 1918. In April 1918 he was Second in Command of the 4th Battalion Grenadier Guards; from 6 October 1918 he was In Command of the 2nd Battalion. He was twice wounded during the war - during the passage of the Aisne, 2 September 1914 and again following shortly after the battle of Loos, 3 October 1915. For his war services he was twice mentioned in despatches, and awarded the Military Cross and French Legion of Honour 5th Class. Post-war he was a member of the Allied Mission at Chorlu, Thrace, October-November 1922. Several times mentioned in the regimental history -
