John Shaw Carver was born in Gateshead and enlisted at Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Serving with the 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he died on 14 September 1914. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the La Ferte-sous-Jouarre Memorial.
