Henry George Butler was born and lived in Witham. Essex and enlisted at Stratford, Essex. Serving with the 10th Battalion Essex Regiment, he was killed in action on 19 April 1916, aged 25 years. He was buried in the Cerisy-Gailly Military Cemetery, Somme, France. He was the son of James Butler of London Road, Rivenhall End, Essex.
