Alfred Poyser (note different initials on medal) was born and lived in New Tupton, Chesterfield, Derbyshire and enlisted at Chesterfield. Serving with the Derbyshire Yeomanry, he was killed in action in Gallipoli on 26 September 1915, aged 20 years. His name is commemorated on the Helles Memorial. He was the son of George Alfred and Elizabeth Poysner of 5 Nethermoor Road, New Tupton, Chesterfield.

2122 Pte H. H. Poyser was not killed. 2012 Pte A. Poyser (see footnote) is a different man
