T. Jolly was 3rd Engineer on the Manchester Liners’ cargo ship Manchester Merchant of 5,657 tons.

The vessel was completed in February 1900 and was immediately requisitioned as a troopship during the Boer War. On her first voyage on being returned to the Manchester Liners company, the
Manchester Merchant was destroyed by fire in Dingle Bay, Co. Kerry, Ireland, on 15 January 1903. She was on her way from New Orleans to Manchester carrying a cargo of cotton.
