Military General Service 1793-1814, 1 clasp, Java (William Howlett, 69th Foot) edge bruising and lacquered, otherwise good very fine

Ex Needes Collection, Glendinings, July 1940, and acquired by him at Sotheby in February 1912.

William Howlett was born in the Parish of Pilsel, near Walsall, Staffordshire, and enlisted into the 69th Regiment on 4 September 1806, aged 20, a nailer by trade. He was discharged from the 69th at Bellary on 17 July 1815 and admitted to an Out Pension on 4 October 1816. However, he re-enlisted into the 5th Royal Veteran Battalion at Shrewsbury on 25 December 1819, being finally discharged upon disbandment of that unit on 4 June 1821. Sold with copy discharge papers.
