James Higgins was born in Kilconnel, Co. Galway, lived in Ballymacward and enlisted at Ballinasloe. Serving with the 2nd Battalion Connaught Rangers, he was killed in action on 26 August 1914. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the La Ferte-sous-Jouarre Memorial.
