Hammer Price:
£490

18th Century Tokens, Carmarthenshire, Carmarthen, John Morgan, a trial striking from the unfinished dies for a Halfpenny on a blank intended for a John Wilkinson issue, view of interior of ironworks, inverted v for a in halfpenny, rev. man at forge, inverted v for a in morgan, edge willey snedshill bersham bradley, 11.43g/12h (dies as DH 7 but in earlier unfinished state, edge not listed). Fine, of the highest rarity £200-300

This most interesting piece is, in all probability, the same specimen which was once in the W.J. Davis Collection (Glendining Auction, 10-11 June 1920, lot 78); the cataloguer knows of no other. Apart from the spelling errors, much detail is missing in the design on both sides and some of the letters are incomplete (l, f and p in halfpenny) or defective (d and r in the outer legends)

The first sentence in the footnote should be ignored
