France, Meditation, bronze Art Nouveau plaquette, by Jeanne Borgeaud, c. 1900 (BDM 1, p. 217). Extremely fine, but a little discoloured, a charming study, softly modelled (£30-40)

Jeanne Bourgeaud-Strenz, pupil of Claudius Marioton and Hippolyte Moreau, sculptress and medallist. This medallist is noted by Forrer, who records a few of her works, including the present one. Strangely none of her medals were included in the 1967 exhibition in Paris “La Medal in France de Ponscarme à la Belle Époque” nor does she appear in CGMP.
