The consignor, a very experienced numismatist in the field of modern British coins, considers this coin to be a proof. The cataloguer is reluctant to accept this view, especially as proof Halfpennies are not recorded for the year and the fields, although almost flawless, do not show the brilliance one would expect of a proof striking.
