Hammer Price:
£260

Trinovantes and Catuvellauni, Whaddon Chase type, silver Unit, head left, pellet in oval for eye, reverse horse galloping left, pellet in annulet for eye, and also breast and haunches, three pellets above (CCB 1549; S 50). Good very fine, head and horse well centred (£80-100)

This coin, although clearly a Whaddon Chase type, cannot easily be assigned to any of the four classes into which Van Arsdell divides these coins. With envelope identifying the coin, probably written by a musen staff member or other specialist, stating “silver coin with affinities to ‘Whaddon Chase’ type...” Consignor assigns this to CCB 155.1.
