Clifford Hill was born in Ipswich, Suffolk, c.1889. Living in Bredfield, Woodbridge, Suffolk, he enlisted into the Army and served with the 8th Battalion Suffolk Regiment, entering the France/Flanders theatre of war on 25 July 1915. Serving with them he won the Military Medal, the award being listed in the Divisional Routine Orders of 8 November 1917. He was discharged as a Class Z Reserve on 2 April 1919, being entitled to the 1914-15 Star, British War and Victory Medals. Rejoining the Suffolk Regiment, he served in India, gaining the I.G.S. Medal with clasp ‘Malabar 1921-22’. With copied research.
