A C.B.E. pair awarded to John Powter, Director, Jamaica Government Railways, late District Traffic Superintendent, Nigerian Railways

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, C.B.E. (Civil) Commander’s 1st type neck badge, silver-gilt and enamel, with neck cravat, in Garrard, London case of issue; Africa General Service 1902-56, 1 clasp, Nigeria 1918 (J. Powter); together with a mounted pair of miniature dress medals, full-size A.G.S. with slight edge bruise and scratch marks to obverse, very fine (4) £450-500

John Powter was born on 5 January 1881. Employed by the North Eastern Railway in England in 1897; he was later Assistant and District Traffic Superintendent, Nigerian Railways, 1911-22; General Manager, Trinidad Government Railways and Steamers, 1922-25, and Director of Railways, Jamaica Government Railway from 1925. He died on 24 October 1930.
