Five: Major Anthony Orby Shipley, Royal Artillery, late Indian Army

1939-45 Star; Burma Star; Defence and War Medals, these unnamed; General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Malaya, E.II.R. (Major, R.A.) mounted as worn, very fine (5) £140-180

Anthony Orby Shipley was born on 22 December 1922. Previously a Lance-Corporal, he was granted a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Indian Army on 20 September 1942. He was promoted a War Substantive Lieutenant in March 1943, a Temporary Captain in November 1943, and a War Substantive Captain and Temporary Major in February 1945. In February 1946 he was appointed an Instructor in the N.C.O. Wing at the School of Infantry at Warminster. After the War he was transferred to a Regular Army Emergency Commission in the South Wales Borderers as a 2nd Lieutenant. In September 1947 he gained a commission in the Regular Army as a Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery. He was promoted Temporary Captain in March 1949, Captain in December 1949 and Major in December 1956. On 27 October 1958 Major Shipley was posted as G.S.O.3 to Northern Ireland District. He retired on Retired Pay on 14 September 1959. After his military service he took employment with the Canada Life Assurance Company. He died on 28 July 1982.
