M.I.D. London Gazette 23 May 1946. ‘Temp. Capt., South African Forces’ ‘... in recognition of gallant and distinguished service in the Mediterranean Theatre’.

Captain Maurice Sydney Ryan served during the Great War with the South African Motor Cyclists Corps. He served in East Africa and was later discharged due to tropical sickness. During the Second World War he served in the 38th Railway Construction Company, S.A.E.C., serving in East Africa, Syria, Egypt and Italy.
