John Farren was educated at King’s College School, Wimbledon and London University. At the outbreak of war he had just passed his inter-science examinations with honours in mathematics and a 1st class in chemistry. He was a Cadet Sergeant in the University O.T.C. Farren was commissioned in September 1914 and served in France with the Queen’s Regiment for 12 months. With the Suffolk Regiment he was severely wounded on 1 July 1916. Recovering, on 30 October 1916 he returned to his regiment at the front. He fell in action on 13 November 1916, aged 22 years, and was buried in the Queen’s Cemetery, Puisieux, Pas de Calais, France. He was the son of William and Adelaide Farren of 7 Cambridge Road, Wimbledon, London. Sold with copied photograph and research.
