Frank Mabbett was born at Monkton Deverill, Warminster, Wiltshire. Serving in the Boer War, he was wounded at Enslin, 25 November 1899. He was killed in action at the Battle of Jutland, 1 June 1916, aged 39 years, when serving on the battleship H.M.S. Malaya. He was buried in the Lyness Royal Naval Cemetery. The Malaya formed part of the 5th Battle Squadron of ‘fast battleships’ commanded by Rear-Admiral Hugh Evan-Thomas. The squadron was heavily engaged with the German battlecruiser squadron and main battle fleet. The Malaya suffered 2 officers, 61 other ranks and 4 civilians killed and 33 other ranks wounded in the action. Frank Mabbett was the son of Robert and Ann Mabbett and husband of Kate Lavinia Mabbett, of 17 Melville Road, Gosport, Hampshire.
