Alfred Turner was born in London on 18 May 1850. He entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class aboard H.M.S. Crocodile on 1 January 1873. He was advanced to Boy 1st Class aboard the Malabar in July 1874. Serving aboard the Tyne, April 1879-August 1887, he was rated as a Ship’s Steward (for general mess) in April 1882. He was discharged ashore as ‘no longer required’ in December 1894. Sold with copied service papers and roll extract
