Tientsin Defence Forces, a large embroidered silk enclosing a photograph of a soldier in uniform, with the embroidered inscription, ‘Pte Reeves 5249943 H.Q. Wing Tientsin 1936’, the silk contained within a wooden glass-fronted frame, approx. 87 x 55cm., good condition, attractive £180-220

5249943 Private Harold Reeves, 1st Battalion Worcestershire Regiment, was killed in action/died, on 14 July 1944, aged 32 years. He was buried in the St. Manvieu War Cemetery, Cheux, near Caen, France. He was the son of William and Annie Reeves of Norton St. Philip, Somerset.

During 1934-36, the 2nd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment were stationed at Tientsin as part of the foreign garrison of the city. At this time, Britain, France, Italy, United States and Japan each provided troops, which maintained national concessions within the city and ensured open access to Pekin.
