William James Dunlop Pinkerton was born on 17 April 1890. Educated at the Dollar Academy in Clackmannanshire, Scotland and at the Royal Technical College in Glasgow, he qualified as an A.M.I.C.E. Serving for many years in the Malay Civil Service, he was appointed an Assistant Engineer in the Public Works Department of the Federated Malay States in April 1914. Promoted within the Public Works Department, he became Assistant Advisor, Drainage and Irrigation, in November 1935. As a member of the Malayan Establishment, Pinkerton was awarded the Coronation Medal of 1937 (F.M.S. Government Gazette 14 May 1937). As a long standing member of the Federated Malay States Volunteer Force he was awarded the Efficiency Medal (Malaya) (F.M.S. Government Gazette 3 February 1939). Still alive in 1973, he was listed as a member of the British Association of Malaysia and Singapore. Sold with copied research.
