Maurice Lionel McNamara served in the ranks of the Volunteers before being commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the 1st Punjab Rifles on 16 May 1914. He was advanced to Lieutenant, 1st Punjab Rifles in March 1917. As Lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion Punjab Rifles, he was awarded the Volunteer Force Long Service Medal, published in I.A.O. 552 of July 1919. Promoted to Captain in 1920, he was awarded the Indian Volunteer Forces Officers’ Decoration, published in the Gazette of India of 11 February 1928. McNamara was promoted to Honorary Major on 30 March 1928, and a day later he was permitted to resign his commission whilst retaining his rank. With some copied research.
