Frederick William Needham was appointed a Lieutenant in the Behar Light Horse on 5 May 1899, stationed at Durbhauga. He was promoted to Captain in the unit on 12 January 1900. He was placed on the Supernumerary List in April 1904. With the outbreak of the Great War he was appointed a Major in the Eastern Bengal Volunteer Rifles on 12 October 1914. In the rank of Major he was awarded the Volunteer Force Long Service Medal, published in the I.A.O. 641 of November 1915. With copied research.
