Reginald Robert Davies served in the Great War. As a Lance-Corporal in the 7th Dragoon Guards, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 17 December 1914. He was commissioned a Temporary 2nd Lieutenant in the 14th Battalion Welsh Regiment on 31 October 1917 and was released in 1920. For his war services he was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War and Victory Medals. On 2 July 1925 Davies, previously a Sergeant in the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps, was granted a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was advanced to a Lieutenant in March 1927 and in July 1928 he was promoted to Captain of the Portuguese Company of the H.K.V.D.C. In January 1933 he transferred to the Reserve of Officers of the H.K.V.D.C. During the Second World War Davies became a prisoner-of-war and was mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 12 September 1946) ‘in recognition of gallant and distinguished services while prisoner of war’. Davies was awarded the Efficiency Decoration (Hong Kong), the award published in the Hong Kong Government Gazette of 21 November 1947. On the disbandment of the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps on 1 March 1949, Captain Davies, E.D., relinquished his commission and was granted the honorary rank of Captain. The Efficiency Decoration (Hong Kong) to Davies is featured in The Efficiency Decoration, by J. M. A. Tamplin. Sold with copied research.
