A Second World War O.B.E. group of eight awarded to Lieutenant-Colonel Edward Stewart Law, Royal Artillery

Edward Stewart Law was, in early 1914, a lance-Corporal in the 4th Battalion Cheshire Regiment. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Welsh Border Mounted Brigade Transport and Supply Column, A.S.C. (T.F.) on 16 May 1914. In February 1915 he was transferred and appointed a 2nd Lieutenant in the Shropshire R.H.A. (T.F.). On 23 February 1916 he was promoted to Temporary Lieutenant and in February 1917 he was seconded for duty as Adjutant-General at a Base Depot. In July the same year he was promoted to Lieutenant serving with the R.H.A./R.F.A. (T.F.) and was advanced to Acting Captain in February 1918. Lieutenant Law relinquished his commission on 30 September 1921 and was granted the rank of Captain’.

After the war he rejoined the Territorial Army and was appointed a Captain in the 59th (West Lancashire) Medium Brigade, R.G.A. (T.A.), on 21 March 1922. Law was provisionally promoted to Major in May 1924 and was confirmed in that rank in June 1925. He was awarded the T.D., this notified in the London Gazette of 1 November 1929. Major Law transferred to the T.A.R.O. in September 1931. In July 1939 he was transferred from the T.A.R.O and appointed a Lieutenant-Colonel in the R.A. (T.A.). In 1941 he was specially employed as a Commandant. For his wartime services he was awarded the O.B.E. (London Gazette 1 January 1946’.

Lieutenant-Colonel Law retired in 1948. In 1954 he was awarded the Efficiency Decoration (Territorial) and Clasp, this listed in the London Gazette of 20 July 1954.
