The roll confirms ten European members only of the Nigeria Land Contingent as recipients of the clasp for Nigeria 1918.

Charles William Leese’s colonial service began as assistant district commissioner, S. Nigeria, in 1906. He held various government financial posts in Nigeria and the Gold Coast and was finance officer to the Cameroons Expeditionary Force in 1916. He was appointed Trearurer of Nigeria in October 1928, and was awarded the C.M.G. in 1932.
