D.C.M. Northern Nigeria Gazette 31 March 1909.

Awarded for minor operations undertaken by the Northern Nigeria Regiment in 1907 and 1908. There was no campaign medal granted for these operations. In the Register in the Army Medal Office, Droitwich, this D.C.M. is the first in the Register, and with 8 others was issued on 3 February 1909. A total of 55 W.A.F.F. D.C.M’s were awarded during the reign of Edward VII.

Corporal Osuman was brought to notice in a resumé by Colonel J. Hasler, Commandant, N.N. Regiment, of Minor Operations undertaken during 1907 and 1908, for his gallant leadership on 24 January 1908 when the Kagoro Patrol encountered determined enemy opposition at the town of Kaderko.
