Distinguished Conduct Medal, V.R. (Serjt. Philip Reid, 33rd Regt.); Crimea 1854-56, 3 clasps, Alma, Inkermann, Sebastopol (Cr. Sergt. P. Read, 33rd Regt.), contemporary engraved naming; France, Medaille Militaire, silver, silver-gilt and enamel; Turkish Crimea, British issue (Philip Read, late Colour-Sergeant, 33rd Regt.), fitted with elaborate suspension bar, contemporary engraved naming, enamel on the third chipped, particularly on reverse, contact marks, edge bruising and polished, otherwise generally good fine or better (4) £2500-3000

Colour-Sergeant Philip Read served throughout the whole campaign; volunteered to go with the Regiment on 8 September, at the attack on the Redan, when warned for that duty; was severely wounded on that occasion’ (Carter refers).
