Only 10 clasps for 1898 issued to the Royal Navy, all to H.M.S. Heron, four for the Borgu expedition, and six for the Illah expedition.
Edward Fisher was born in Clifton, Gloucestershire, on 1 November 1861, and joined the Navy on his 18th birthday. He was awarded his L.S. & G.C. medal as a Caulker’s Mate whilst serving in H.M.S. Opal, October 1886 to September 1890. Advanced to Leading Shipwright in December 1890, he became Carpenter’s Mate in November 1897 and joined Heron in that rate in March 1898. He was one of six men who served on the Illah expedition to qualify for the 1898 clasp. Fisher was shore pensioned as a Shipwright (Pensioner) on 31 March 1903.
