Alfred Le Cluse was born in London on 1 September 1824 and joined the Navy in January 1847. He served aboard H.M. Ships Vanguard and Hogue before joining Agamemnon in September 1853 as an Ordinary Seaman, becoming Able Seaman in February 1855 and remaining in that ship until July 1856 when he removed to Retribution. He became a Leading Seaman in January 1860 and was discharged to shore in December 1860, thereafter serving as a Boatman in the Coast Guard from January 1861 until 11 July 1869. Sold with copies of full service record and medal roll entries.
