Colin Campbell Boileau was born on 25 May 1863. Appointed Lieutenant in the Norfolk Regiment on 11 June 1884, he obtained an Indian Service Commission in April 1886 and was posted to the 5th Bengal Cavalry, being promoted to Captain in May 1895. He took part in the operations in Waziristan in 1901-02 and was promoted to Major during the course of the campaign. He resigned his commission, however, shortly afterwards on 20 December 1902.
