One of only 25 medals issued with three clasps, 16 of which had this combination

John B. Birney attested for the British South Africa Company Police, as Trooper No. 267, on 20 February 1890. He served in ‘A’ Troop in the Pioneer Column in 1890, and in the same rank with the Salisbury Horse in Matabeleland in 1893, and with the Salisbury Field Force in Rhodesia in 1896.
