Vaughan Jenkins was appointed Lieutenant in the West Riding Regiment on 30 December 1871, becoming Captain in October 1881 and Major in May 1886. He served with the Miranzai expedition in 1891 under Sir William Lockhart as Assistant Adjutant-Geneal after Major Egerton had been wounded (Mentioned in Despatches, Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel). He was confirmed as Lieutenant-Colonel on 1 September 1891 and placed on the Reserve of Officers.
