William Gilbert is confirmed on the roll as an Ordinary Seaman aboard H.M.S. Caesar 80, flagship of Rear-Admiral Sir James Saumarez. Approximately 143 clasps were issued for the successful attack by the squadron of Admiral Saumarez upon the Franco-Spanish squadrons under the enemy batteries in Algeçiras Bay. One other man of this name appears on the roll for Syria.
