Richard Stephen Ryder was born in 1917 and educated at Radley College and Queen’s College, Cambridge. He was appointed 2nd Lieutenant, King’s Royal Rifle Corps, on 21 December 1940. He served throughout the Second World War and in Palestine, ending up as a Temp. Major. After the war he farmed briefly in Kenya for two years before returning to Suffolk to continue farming.
