Distinguished Conduct Medal, G.V.R. (S-8301 Pte., 2/A. & S. Hdrs.) nearly extremely fine £180-220

D.C.M. London Gazette 24 June 1916: ‘For conspicuous gallantry. He went out in broad daylight, after the enemy had exploded a mine, and, when unable to drag in a wounded man, stood boldly up regardless of heavy fire and carried him into safety.’

Alexander McKay, born Embo, Sutherland, enlisted Barry, Forfar, was killed in action in France on 17 June 1916. He is buried in Cambrin Churchyard Extension, France.
