Arthur Carew Hunt was appointed Ensign, 50th Foot, by purchase, on 11 April 1862. He served with the 50th Foot in New Zealand from the 15th November 1863 to 1866, and was present at the assault and capture of Rangiawhia, the repulse of the enemy’s attack at Nukumaru, and taking of Putahi (Medal). In July 1869, he purchased a Lieutenantcy in the 5th Lancers, transferred to the 10th Hussars, as Captain, in February 1875, and was placed on half pay in March 1877. Captain Hunt continued to serve with the 4th Middlesex Militia.
