Royal Humane Society Bronze Medal: ‘On the morning of the 17th August 1917, 2 soldiers were bathing in the sea on the French coast and got into difficulties in 10 feet of water. Lt. R. H. D’Elboux, 2nd Lt. Saunder and Pte. Bishop, of the North Lancs R. went in and were successful in saving them.’

Raymond Herbert D’Elboux, Private (5470) Inns of Court O.T.C.; 2nd Lieutenant, 4th East Kent Regt., 19 November 1915; Lieutenant, 1 July 1917; attached Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. He was awarded the Military Cross
London Gazette 2 April 1919 and 10 December 1919: ‘For gallantry and good work during the fording of the Sambre-Oise Canal on 4th November 1918, and the subsequent operations resulting in the capture of La Groise and Meziers. As signal officer, he advanced under heavy fire and established an advanced report centre close up to the attacking troops. He established touch with the Company Commander and sent back very valuable information concerning the situation.’
