M.S.M. London Gazette 28 July 1917: ‘For gallantry in the performance of Military Duty.’ One on ten awards for gallantry announced in this London Gazette, all to members of the Home Forces.

Private A. J. Taylor shares a joint recommendation with three other men for this award, which states:
‘For an act of gallantry in rescuing an Officer of the R.F.C. from a burning aeroplane.’ Private Taylor was awarded the M.S.M. in place of the Albert Medal, for which he was originally recommended. The 1st H.S. Garrison Battalion, East Kent Regiment, was stationed at Dover at the time of this award.
