D.C.M. London Gazette 6 February 1918: ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when bringing rations to the battalion in the front line. He went forward and reconnoitred the route, and then got all his pack animals to the forward dump, though the shelling was heavy and several animals became stuck in the mud. He remained at the dump under shell fire until it was cleared by the carrying parties. His remarkable coolness and cheerfulness under difficult conditions had an excellent effect on his men.’

William Burt, born Holborn, Middlesex, enlisted London, died of wounds, France & Flanders, 3 October 1918.
