D.C.M. London Gazette 27 September 1901. Mentioned in Lord Roberts’ final despatch ‘for good and meritorious service.’

According to regimental records Private Fagg was awarded the D.C.M. for gallantry at Driefontein, when he attended to a wounded officer of the Welsh Regiment. It was just prior to the final assault by the regiment on the Boer positions that the famous “white flag” incident, witnessed by Lord Roberts, occurred. A Boer stood up with a white flag and, in spite of warnings to the contrary, several men on our side stood up, and were at once shot down, among them an officer of the Welch Regiment.
